Laying the foundation
Chiropractic care is like building a house – certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of our care at Alpine Spinal Rehabilitation.
Phase 1: Passive Care
If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. We utilize all types of physiotherapy to reduce pain including; ultrasound, micro-amperage electrical stimulation (MES), cyrotherapy, moist heat, inversion and massage therapies. The severity of your symptoms will determine the duration of passive care.
Phase 2: Active Care
There is no long-term benefit to passive care, including chiropractic care, alone. During the active care phase, we treat both the bone and the muscle for long-term pain relief. We treat the bone using computerized spinal adjustments and we treat the muscle using highly advanced spinal physical therapy machines. By using our spinal rehabilitation machine we are able to essentially build a "back-brace" out of the muscle for long-term relief. The duration of active care depends largely on the degree of injury.
Phase 3: Maintenance Care
Once your body has fully healed, it is important that you don't undo everything we have done in our facility. To avoid re-injury, we invite our patients to a monthly Back School for a free dinner at the Sizzler in Orem where we educate our patients on how to guard their spine against re-injury. Additionally, for the year following active care we invite our patients in for monthly visits to maintain spinal muscle tone and identify any further complications.
