Are Your Feet Causing Your Back Pain?

You feel pain in your lower back, in your hips, in your knees, and you immediately think that the pain MUST be coming from those areas of your body, right? WRONG! People often jump to the conclusion that if your back is hurting then there must be a problem with your back, however, if we take a closer look, we might find that your pain is actually coming from your feet! Let us explain.

Everyday we go about doing our “thing;” walking, running, jumping, etc. Within our bodies, there are three main places that absorb the shock generated from these various activities; your feet, knees, and spine. If your feet and knees cannot handle or absorb the amount of shock, it will often spread to your back which causes pain especially if you have spinal misalignment.

You are probably thinking to yourself, why wasn’t my body designed to handle this shock? Well actually, your feet were designed to walk on substances such as grass, sand, and dirt, but things like sidewalks, tile, and wood were not meant for the feet.

Fortunately, there are ways that you can better help your feet and knees absorb this shock!! Have you ever heard the saying there is nothing better than having a good pair of shoes? It’s true!! A good pair of shoes will help your feet absorb the shock that we put them through everyday. Finding the shoe for you depends on how your foot is structured. Some people have high arches while others have flat feet. Depending on what your foot looks like, you will either go with a “minimal” shoe or a shoe with a lot of cushioning. Sorry to tell you, but no high heel is going to help your feet.

Another way to help address this pain is receiving a chiropractic adjustment. By coming into the chiropractor, we can help you pinpoint the origin of your pain. When you find the source of the pain, it is easier to treat. Here at Alpine Spinal Rehabilitation, we provide X-rays for new patients to better understand how we can best help them. Schedule an appointment today and we would love to help get you feeling better and doing what you love!
